ELEPHANT CORRIDORS AND BOUNDLESS SOUTHERN AFRICA
Boundless Southern Africa is the initiative established by the 9 SADC countries to link 7 Trans Frontier Conservation Areas (TFCA) through biodiversity corridors from the East Coast in Mozambique and South Africa to the West Coast TFCA at Oranjemund, Namibia.
Kingsley Holgate is to draw world attention to the opening of this corridor on the 11 May 2009 at the Indaba World Tourism Fair in Durban.
He will leave with a calabash of Indian Ocean water travelling to Lesotho TFCA -- iSimangoliso Wetland Park -- Bheki Gumbi Wild Life Reserve (a joint venture with SEF); there he will open, with Nkosi Gumbi and his entourage in traditional cultural dress and large community celebration, the Child Resource Centre SEF have built here, sponsored by Rotary and Soul of Africa. Kingsley has organised a soccer field, sponsored by 4x4 Megaworld, for the community and wildlife teaching books for our library here. There will be a 2 team play off by soccer teams from Royal Thanda for a TFCA CORRIDOR FLOATING TROPHY, which will be played for by other schools in the area.
SEF will be promoted as being the implementing organisation for the TFCA through Pongola Game Reserve to Swaziland. The expedition moves through Pongola Nature Reserve into Swaziland through the boundary fence to join with the Royal Swazi Big Six as a TFCA into nSubane TFCA. The expedition convoy with SEF moves along Lebombo Spine Corridor to uSuthu Gorge to nDumu Game Reserve and then to SEF Thonga Village, with another community event to be held with the Chief Tembe and his entourage present at Tembe Elephant Park. Ernest Robbersen of Tembe Elephant Lodge is organising an event at a school here where Kingsley presents a Container fitted Library, sponsored by Grindrod, to the school. The symbolic dropping of the fence will be done at the Border crossing over into Royal Swazi Big Six with dignitaries from Mozambique present. This opens the corridor to Mozambique.
